7 Voicemail Message Tips for Sales

7 Voicemail Message Tips for Sales7 Voicemail Message Tips for SalesIf you place a cold call and your prospects voicemail picks up, dont give up and hang up the phone. Voicemail provides a golden opportunity to get leads to call YOU instead of spending days trying to chase them down yourself. But if you expect to get many of your calls returned, youll need to make a point of leaving homilies that will give eachleada good reason to get in touch with you. 01Know What You Want to SayYulia-Images / Getty ImagesBefore you even pick up the phone, jot down a few sentences that you can use as a default voicemail message. These sentences should act as a safety net, not a script. In other words, if your mind goes blank at the sound of the beep, you can glance down at the paper and departure talking instead of sitting there saying Uh, uh, uh...02Speak ClearlyIf your lead cant understand what your message says, shes not going to call you back. This sounds pretty obvious but after the fortieth co ld call of the day, you might start to mumble without even realizing it. So make an effort with each and every voicemail message to speak slowly and clearly.03Repeat YourselfGive your anthroponym, company name and phone number twice on each message once at the beginning of the call and again at the end. That way, if your lead didnt have a pen in hand at the beginning, she doesnt have to replay the message to get your information. Take special care to speak your phone number slowly and clearly picture the recipient sitting there with pen in hand trying to take down the number as you say it.04Not Too ShortSome salespeople like to leave a message with nothing but their name and phone number, and possibly a hint that theyre calling for business purposes. This is not usually a good idea. The only people who call for business purposes and dont include details in the message are salespeople and collection agents. Either way, your lead isnt going to be in a hurry to call back.05Not Too Lo ngOn the other hand, a voicemail message is not the place to describe your entire product line in great detail. The ideal sales voicemail message is no more than one minute long, tops. You want to leave just enough information to intrigue the lead into calling you back. Dont wait until the end to mention your hook because if the first 15 seconds of the message are boring, your message will be wiped before it gets that far.06Mention Your ConnectionIf you got the leads name from an acquaintance or co-worker, drop that persons name early in the voicemail message. Or if you met the lead (or someone from her company) at a convention or other event, then bring that up instead. Failing any kind of connection between you and your lead, say something like, While researching your company, I noticed that your website mentions XYZ... This shows that you arent just calling your way through the phone book.07Pick Your Time WiselyThe worst time to leave a voicemail message is Friday afternoon, espe cially for B2B sales. By the time the lead gets your message, it will be Monday and shell have twenty more important things to deal with. And dont leave messages at times far outside of the business day, like 2 AM, because the time stamp on the voicemail message will make the lead think youre either calling from China or keep really bizarre hours. Weekday mornings are the best time to leave messages because your lead will have the option to pick up the phone immediately, instead of having to wait until the next day to call you back (by which time they may have forgotten all about you).

13)Stump the Intern (10/13)Q I have neither Facebook nor Twitter, because Im not particularly interested in social networking. However, even I can recognize that social networking is having a huge impact on the way employees hunt and employers hire. Im willing to bite the bullet and create profiles on both, but I want to keep it strictly professional. How do I do this without all my friends friending me on Facebook and following me on Twitter?Signed,Not quite a Luddite but practically thereA Luddite, Ill admit, I laughed a little when your question came in. Its good that youve recognized that if you want to play on the job market field in the 21st century, you have to get with the program (literally). If you want to keep your Facebook and Twitter accounts professional, I think you will have to create twoone to use for personal wall postings, messaging, and gift giving, and tweetingand another for employers. Your friends will look for you and they will friend you they are going to fol low you on Twitter, too. If you want to keep your personal Facebook profile private, you can ensure that no one except those in your network can see it, in additional to several other settings. Good luckPosted by Sophie Friedman, Vault Web Content Intern

ASME Cosponsors Fourth Annual STEM Capitol Hill Day ASME Cosponsors Fourth Annual STEM Capitol Hill Day (Left to right) ASMEs Loretta McHugh, Melissa Carl, Julie Bachmann Kulik, and Eduardo Barrientos were among the more than 80 in attendance at the 2013 Capitol Hill Day last month. Last month, ASME co-sponsored the 2013 Diversity and Inclusion Fuels neuheit in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Capitol Hill Day, which was organized by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). The event, now in its fourth year, differs from other science and technology advocacy days on Capitol Hill because it focuses solely on the need to strengthen the diversity of the STEM workforce. This years Capitol Hill Day events consisted of training for participants and a Capitol Hill reception on March 20, followed by a Capitol Hill breakfast and Congressional visits on March 21. The event was made possible by a grant from the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation. SWE President Alyse Stofer (left) presented Phil Hamilton, former ASME Associate Executive Director of Strategy and Outreach, with the 2013 SWE Presidents Award. Hamilton, who retired from ASME in January, was recognized by SWE for his leadership and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in STEM fields, and for his help in fostering an enduring partnership between ASME and SWE. SWE President Alyse Stofer served as the moderator for the forum, which attracted 84 participants, including three ASME leaders Loretta McHugh, member of the ASME Foundation Board and the Committee on Organization and Rules Julie Bachmann Kulik, chair of the Philadelphia Section and member of the Energy Committee and the Board on Research and Technology Development and Eduardo Barrientos, vice president elect, Affinity Communities. Kulik and Barrientos are also members of the ASME Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Committee. The instructional portion of the meeting included a training session focusing o n how to advocate successfully on Capitol Hill. This session featured an overview of current public policy issues related to women and STEM and a discussion of the current tight fiscal climate on Capitol Hill. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) discussed her new bill, the STEM Opportunities Act of 2013, during Capitol Hill Day. At The Intersections

At The Intersections At The Intersections At The IntersectionsGas turbines are taking off.Jet aircraft powered by gas turbines have long been the star of the long-haul passenger transportation system in the United States and around the world. And over the last decade, as new power generating capacity has been added to the electric system, gas turbines (along with wind turbines) also have become the dominant technology in the power industryand are positioned to continue their dominance. The U.S. Energy Information Administration projects that roughly 60 percent of new power generation capacity between today and 2035 will be supplied by combined cycle gas turbine plants.A variety of factors have contributed to the new prominence of gas turbine technology in the power industry. In the United States, for instance, natural gas production from shale formations has leuchtdiode to a steep reduction in gas prices in the last 10 years.Gas turbine generating facilities create little pollutionem itting no sulfur oxides, low levels of nitrogen oxides and particulates, and less than half the carbon dioxide per MWh of a coal-fired plant. Because gas turbine power plants are less of a burden on surrounding areas, they can be sited, permitted, and built quickly, which lowers the cost of financing the construction. And due to their rapid transient response capabilities, gas turbines play an important role in supplying power to even out variations in renewable power, especially solar and wind. The intersection of gas turbines for power generation and aviation with advanced manufacturing is creating exciting opportunities. New gas turbine designs that take advantage of advanced manufacturing techniques will enable quicker time to market with lower costs and improved performance. This intersection also is creating exciting opportunities for aftermarket geschftliches miteinanderes through the potential of rapid repairs, refurbishments, and spare parts on demand.Impact on EfficiencyThe value from those new manufacturing techniques and non-traditional materials applied to gas turbines can come from reduced development times, cost of the part, and performance. Coupled with new integrated design and manufacturing tools, advanced manufacturing promises to enable engineers to create solutions that would have been impossible to conceive of a decade ago.Pratt Whitneys geared turbofan engine gearbox bracket was manufactured using direct metal laser sintering in nickel alloy. ruf Pratt WhitneyTake for example the challenge of further increasing the efficiency and performance of gas turbines. Currently, manufacturers are pursuing higher pressure ratios, better three-dimensional aerodynamics, and reduced aerodynamic losses to achieve increased cycle efficiency.Advanced manufacturing may enable higher turbine inlet temperatures, new materials and coatings, improved cooling, and better sealing and three-dimensional aerodynamics to reduce lossesall of which impact efficiency. Using 3-D printing to manufacture airfoils out of several materials, each matched to the level of stress it would experience, could lead to tremendous weight reductions. And new combustor designs could increase operability windows, reduce emissions, and allow fuel flexibility while maintaining flame stability.Advanced manufacturing can also achieve increased performance and operability through the integration of sensors in turbine components.Through the use of selective laser melting, for example, instrumentierung can be designed and integrated into the component prior to printing. Moreover, selective laser melting provides the opportunity to place instrumentation in locations which otherwise might be impossible, given the routing or line-of-sight issues arising from conventional processes.Printing reliable sensors directly on turbine components, such as the airfoils, can lead to improved monitoring and prognostics capabilities of the component, reducing costs, downtime for repairs , and the complexity of sensor installation. Moreover, gas turbines are typically operated in a way that is optimal only to an average engine, operating on an average day, with an average fuel composition having these much mora detailed measurements will enable significant improvements in performance. The entry point where advanced manufacturing techniques make business sense depends upon the application, and it is helpful to differentiate between the validation and prototyping phase, the production phase, and the repair and aftermarket phase.custompagebreakStart with the validation and prototyping phase Conventional processes used in turbine development programs require significant design cycle time. That time can be reduced significantly through parallel and integrated development processes that are possible via the application of advanced manufacturing. For instance, a new digital 3-D design can be printed immediately using selective laser melting and then tested. (The authors of t his article routinely use additive manufacturing for combustion and turbine cooling experiments.)At the production phase, the business case for developing the tooling and fixtures needed to manufacture parts is quite different from the one for manufacturing the actual parts themselves. As in the prototyping phase, advanced manufacturing is quickly buying its way into the shop floor for the rapid production of fixtures that minimize facility setup time. In addition, it may speed up the casting processes of complex parts such as turbine blades by replacing the lost wax process with 3-D printed cores.Even with the production of engine components themselves, industry is moving ahead. In April 2015, General Electric announced the first-ever 3-D printed engine component certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration A part of the compressor used in the gas turbine that powers Boeings 777. GE also announced that its GE Aviation division plans to produce more than 100,000 additively manufactured parts by 2020, including the fuel nozzles slated for use in its innovative LEAP engine.Meanwhile, other gas turbine manufacturers are making use of advanced methods. Rolls-Royce announced in 2015 that it will conduct flight tests on the largest 3-D printed component to ever power an aircrafta titanium housing that contains 48 airfoils. The component is 1.5 m in diameter and 0.5 m in thickness. And recently, Toulouse-based Safran Microturbo was able to print a complete gas turbine assembly.Manufacturing a short pipe section with a smooth transition from round to square is simplified by use of 3-D printing. Image SiemensFinally, opportunities in the repair and overhaul market are particularly exciting. New technologies are creating better methods for welding, replacing abraded material, and joining two pieces made from different materials, such as ceramic thermal barrier coatings onto combustor liners or turbine blades. In addition, the possibility of repairing components in the field rather than requiring them to be shipped to a central facility offers significant opportunities for minimizing outages or time off wing. The Larger RevolutionAs with the introduction of any new method, there are challenges in integrating advanced manufacturing into current development programs. For instance, todays workforce is unprepared to take advantage of what advanced manufacturing offers. Academic programs must educate future engineers to integrate design with new manufacturing methods, and we need better technical education to produce the skilled labor qualified to use the new processes. The certification processes for components also needs attention. Without clear policies, the tremendous opportunities for the aftermarket repair business may result in intellectual property battles where lines can easily be blurred given the digitization of parts. Policies need to address potential issues quickly in order to promote the uses of advanced manufacturing.Even if all t hat can be accomplished, the larger revolution is yet to come The complete rethinking of architectures, layouts, and general design practices. For example, one gas turbine component that has received significant attention from potential first adopters is the fuel injector/nozzle, which has numerous intricate holes and injection passages. However, the design teams that have worked on it quickly realized that not only can they more easily manufacture those complex components, but a bewildering array of new options are now available. A simple example is the fuel orifice itselfit has always been round because drilled holes are round, but is that the optimal shape?Similarly, redesigning turbine airfoils presents tremendous opportunities to route valuable cooling air to regions where it was not previously possible to cool in an effective manner. What is the optimal shape and layout of the airfoil cooling channels? Future combustors, turbine components, and other high tech critical componen ts will be increasingly changed as people rethink development of these components outside of the manufacturing restrictions that we have grown up with. The gas turbine is poised to become the most important thermal energy and propulsion device in the 21st century. Advanced manufacture will significantly alter how gas turbines are made and perhaps how they operate.Timothy C. Lieuwen, an ASME Fellow, is professor in the School of Aerospace Engineering, and executive director of the Strategic Energy Institute, at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Karen A. Thole, also an ASME Fellow, is a professor and head of the Department Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Pennsylvania State University in State College. The intersection of gas turbines for power generation and aviation with advanced manufacturing is creating exciting opportunities.

Australian Qualifications Framework

Australian Qualifications Framework Australian Qualifications FrameworkPosted October 13, 2011, by Andrea RiddellThe Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a national framework that aims to protect and ensure the quality of Australian education. Under the AQF, there is a high national standard across all education and training sectors, meaning that all qualifications are recognised across Australia as well as worldwide. Each State and Territory has legislative responsibility for authorising the issuance of qualifications in the senior secondary schools, vocational education and training and higher education sectors. All Australian education and training institutions that wish to offer courses to international students must be registered with the Commonwealth Government. These institutions are monitored and audited on a regular basis to guarantee quality control and to ensure that they comply with regulations.International students are also protected under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act. The AQF allows students to start studying at any level that suits their skills and knowledge and makes it easy to build upon qualifications with further credentials. This is due to the creation of a common understanding of what constitutes each qualification. The AQF also provides a benchmark for credit transfers and recognition of prior learning, making it easier to understand and compare levels of qualifications. How to Research the Fair Market Value of a Job

How to Research the Fair Market Value of a JobHow to Research the Fair Market Value of a Job6Every job landseeker knows that a salary is the reason you look for a job. Ideally, your new job is going to be something that you are passionate about and will enjoy doing for many years to come. However, without a living wage, even the best job will have to be abandoned for one that can sustain your quality of life. But how can you figure out the fair market value of a job?Understanding and researching your worth as a job seeker and the comparable rates for your skills is an important task to undertake when looking for a new job or changing careers. A fine line exists between a fair market value for the position and a job seeker just plektruming an arbitrary number that doesnt reflect their skills, education, or experience.Sure, wed all love to be kicking back six figures, but if you are not in an industry that offers salaries in that range, it can disqualify you from the candidate pool. So where do you begin to research the fair market value of a job? Here are five tips on how to research the fair market value of a job.Yourself As a job seeker, it is important not to inflate your skills or sell yourself short. Look at your education, including the classes you took, your grades, and your interests. Look at your location are you in an area that has a high concentration of unemployment or saturation in a certain market? Think about your experience- does filling in occasionally for someone qualify you in that job? By being honest with yourself, you are more likely to pick a salary that reflects where you are and what you offer, instead of settling or disqualifying yourself based on salary requests.Look at sources for salary information Salary.com and Payscale.com both offer great services that allow job seekers to investigate salary information based on their job title or the company. Having an educated ballpark figure of your worth and the possible salaries offered in yo ur areas of interest can help dovetail your job search. Applicants do not want to waste their time applying for jobs that are not a good fit for them or will not compensate them at a level they are comfortable with. Using these web sources can be a great way to see if a position or company is worth pursuing.Ask professional organizations Many industries have professional organizations that connect individual professionals together for the health and stability of their career. Most professional organizations will have surveys and informal information about their industry that can be provided to job seekers and college graduates who are considering a career in their field. Professional organizations have an investment in knowing how their field is fairing and the challenges and successes faced by like-minded professionals around the country and locally.Look at government salaries Government salaries are public information, as required by law, so they can be a great starting point for understanding what compensation is in certain fields.
